The First Nonlinear Structures and the Reionization History of the Universe

چکیده
In cosmological models favored by current observations, the first astrophysical objects formed in dark matter halos at redshifts starting at z ∼> 20, and their properties were determined by primordial H2 molecular chemistry. These protogalaxies were very abundant, but substantially less massive than typical galaxies in the local Universe. Extreme metal-poor stars, and massive black holes in their nuclei reionized the bulk of the hydrogen in the intergalactic medium. Reionization may have taken place over an extended redshift interval, ending around z ≈ 7. Observational probes of the process of reionization may soon be afforded by studying the polarization of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies, as well as by studying the spectra and abundance of distant Lyα-emitting galaxies. Here we review theoretical expectations on how and when the first galaxies formed, and summarize future observational prospects of probing hydrogen reionization.

Seismic Vulnerability Assesment of Jacket Type Offshore Platforms
Most of oil and gas offshore platforms are located in the seismic regains. So, Seismic vulnerability evaluation of the offshore platforms is one of the most important and vital issues in the structural systems. In this study, jacket type offshore platforms are studied by incorporating the pushover analyses and nonlinear time history analyses, in such a way that, first some push over analyses ar...
متن کاملSeismic Reliability Evaluation of the Jacket Structure of an Offshore Platform Based on Nonlinear Time History Analyses
Regarding the previous earthquake damages in offshore structures, as vital structures in the oil and gas industries, it is important that their seismic design will be performed with very high reliability. Accepting the Nonlinear Time History Analyses (NLTHA) as the most reliable seismic analysis method, in this paper an offshore platform of jacket type with the height of 304 feet and with a dec...
متن کاملThe Comparison of the IDA and ET on Steel Structures Rehabilitated by Isolators
Endurance time (ET) method is a relatively new performance-based earthquake method for structural evaluation and design. In this method, the structure is subjected to a gradually intensifying accelorogram(s) and its performance is assessed based on the maximum time duration that it can meet the specified performance objectives. Using moment-resisting and braced frames which are rehabilitated by...
متن کاملPREDICTION OF NONLINEAR TIME HISTORY DEFLECTION OF SCALLOP DOMES BY NEURAL NETWORKS
This study deals with predicting nonlinear time history deflection of scallop domes subject to earthquake loading employing neural network technique. Scallop domes have alternate ridged and grooves that radiate from the centre. There are two main types of scallop domes, lattice and continuous, which the latticed type of scallop domes is considered in the present paper. Due to the large number o...
متن کاملEvaluation of the SEAOC/UBC97 Provisions for the Tall Base-Isolated Structures
The base isolation systems are among the passive control devices that have been used over the last three decades to limit the seismic-induced response of structures. In this regard, the Uniform Building Code provisions (UBC) has incorporated a special section for the seismic design of base isolated structures since its 1991 edition. Due to the importance of the behavior of these structures unde...
